Australian comedy circuit stalwart Justin Hamilton is giving punters a very special treat this year. Instead of just one show (like regular, lazy comedians) Justin’s going to be presenting an astonishing three shows during the run of the festival, each falling under the banner title “Three Colours Hammo.” I asked Justin what prompted him to take on this seemingly Herculean task. ”I wanted to do something that I would find interesting if I was a punter” he says, “that and Chinese water torture was just too slow for my liking.”

”They are three stand alone shows that each tell one story but if you see all three they tell one big story”, he says. ”It also breaks down like a trilogy does. The first show Melbourne is a very exuberant, positive show about moving to Melbourne and falling in love; the second show Laugh and Death is essentially about finding the humour in dark moments; the third show Hamilton and His Sisters is about reading a letter I wrote that was in a time capsule from when I was eight…and if the first two shows do well enough I will sell out and throw some Ewoks in there for merch reasons.”

I asked Justin if punters will be able to appreciate just one of the performances or if they would need to come to all three shows to make sense of it all. “Not at all,” he says, ” they can just come to the one show. It depends on what their tastes are like: if they like happy the first one is for them, the second is very dark and the third is more a cross between whimsical and poignant…so much so I have created a word that for that show which is poigsical. This would be a good word to use in imaginary scrabble.”

This seems to be a huge amount of material that Justin will be going through. I asked him if he has dry run these shows or if he’s going in raw. “No I’ve earn’t too much money to enter Raw… that contest is only for amateurs. As for dry running the shows we have given each a separate run so far and I performed all three in a row in Adelaide… just the once though, I needed a Nanna nap straight after.”
