Geraldine Hickey – Trucker’s Daughter
Interview with Geraldine Hickey
Tell us a bit about “Trucker’s Daughter”.
My Dad drives a Truck. He has 6 children and I want to be his favourite, so I’ve written a show dedicated to him. It’s essentially a collection of stories about the times I was his favourite and the times I wasn’t.

Will this be a primarily stand up piece?
Essentially yes, with a bit of theatrics as well.
This show seems to have an autobiographical theme not unlike your last Melbourne Comedy Festival Show. Is this a format you enjoy?
It’s the format I know. It worked for me last year and I do enjoy doing it. I love telling a good story and I’ve got plenty of them.
Last year’s show “One Week in Paradise” tackled some dark material. Can we expect to see a similar thing this year?
Not so much. This show is much more light hearted. There is some dark stuff in there but it’s not about me.
As a young female working in a male dominated industry do you feel there is any extra pressure on you and your female contemporaries to carry a flag?
To be honest no. I feel there is enough pressure carrying my own flag, let alone carrying a group flag. For me comedy is based on the individual not the gender.
Should we expect any balladeer-ing, Ian Moss style, in this show?
No, but there will be dancing.
