What Me Worry

It’s been a pleasure to see Dave Thornton’s comedy develop, and What… Me Worry? is a great overview of his standup material.

Starting with a brief video of Dave’s school experiences (starring Dave as everybody), Dave appears and goes straight into stories of living poor and unemployment, as well as a few of his workforce experiences. His material is extremely accessable, and Dave’s delivery is natural and effortless.

There’s an energy that I’ve seen in Dave’s appearances around town that was a little subdued here, but that’s most likely a consequence of having such a small crowd. But there’s also something more here – a depth to the comedy that doesn’t get revealed in five minute spots.

The show winds up with Dave sharing his search for happiness including contact with both the Queen and the Dalai Lama, creating an atmosphere that is poignant and uplifting. Dave has the potential to be a huge comic, and this show is a perfect demonstration of his potential.
