How do You Like Your Eggs is described in the program as a ‘History of Dating’. In fact there are no mentions of Medieval courtship in this funny one-woman show, it is more aptly described as the history of Andrea Powell’s dating experiences. Andrea Powell is an accomplished comedienne, who has been getting mileage from her past disastrous relationships for some time. Here she has turned her fifteen minute routine about nightmare boyfriends into a fully fledged hour long festival show about the perils of modern dating.

Having been single for a while and suffering coupled friends trying to set her up Andrea decides to try out all the modern singles routes. On her own she fails at holiday romance rather embarrassingly then tries swing dancing. Join a club, meet people, so the advice goes and Andrea gave it a go. She dragged a hapless male audience member up on stage to demonstrate her new hobby and had to tell him to stand still while she danced because he was a bit too enthusiastic and uncoordinated. While this was going on Andrea told us how she sadly discovered that single men were very thin on the dance floor, and that you really needed your own partner at home to practice with.

She moves on to more professional modes of hunting. She brilliantly takes on the character of a slightly intimidating matchmaker from the business called “Dinner for Two” in a very funny monologue. She signs up for RSVP on the internet and learns that most men just can’t be bothered reading the profile that you’ve so thoughtfully laboured over. The upside to this is that they are able to supply her instead with some ready made effortless comedy replies for her show. Finally what modern desperate search for companionship would be complete without the thrill of speed dating? She points out that she does meet some lovely and relatively normal men along the way, but hey, they have no place in a comedy show!

So does Andrea meet her Mr Right, or Mr He’ll do? You’ll have to find out yourself by going to see Andrea’s lively creative show which explored dating by utilizing, storytelling, dance, PowerPoint pictures, puppetry, her wonderful ability to play different characters and audience participation, so if you’re a bit shy you might want to sit down the back.
