Many shows at the Fringe Festival can be confronting. They can take you to the edge of disaster, sometimes over the edge. This can become a bit overwhelming, so it’s really lovely to sit back, relax and put yourself in the talented hands of an experienced comedian like Carl Barron.
With effortless charm Carl takes us on the experience of his rambling, morning walk. This includes dropping in at the ATM, the post office, the thoughts that pop into his head, memories of walking with his father recently and of his childhood. There are also memories of his recent holiday in France, walking the streets of Paris.
He uses his expressive face and other physical moves to great comic effect and toodles around with a guitar for a bit. He’s no great musician but it adds colour to his routine (and hey, musical comedy is really ‘in’ right now!)
Carl Barron is the sort of comedian who gives a good name to observational comedy. I particularly enjoyed his wrestles with the French language and his impression of how the French might hear his attempts.
Carl says his friends tell him “You think too much” and this has turned out to be a great asset, making him an excellent stand-up comedian and a fun walking companion. Go see Carl for some solid, straight-up and slightly whimsical stand-up comedy.
