Venue: Demarco Roxy Art House
This is a new musical which explores similar themes as Corpus did three years ago (plastinated people able to think and feel). In this case, the waxworks are able to move about and are modeled on famous stars of films and music. If you have seen the girl in the blue leotard with the Christmas tree decorations wandering down the Royal Mile in the last few days, this is the production she is in (as Kylie).
The music is all new but based on the melodically based on song made famous by the original stars. The wax people include Marilyn, Whitney, Michael, Freddie, Kylie, Avril, The King and Agnetha. The plot of the story involves an evil manager who wants to sell the museum and a bumbling dogs body who is in love with Kylie. Who will prevail? Will the wax melt or will they be saved from this icky fate? Well, it’s a musical so…
The cast of this production are all very young and seemed a bit tense during the show. This resulted in their delivery of the lines being stilted and often hard to hear. They also had trouble with projecting their voices during the songs, and this wasn’t helped by the music being overly loud and way too bass heavy. The plot lines do have a few flaws and some of the dialogue is rather garbled, but the show as a whole is worth a watch if you’re into musical theatre. I’m sure that once their confidence is built this will be an entertaining show for the whole family to see.
