Venue: Pickup outside Waverly station (the bus is part of the MacTours group)
This is a lovely tour around Edinburgh in an open top bus, on a beautiful sunny day. The guide gives a running commentary of the buildings and their significance to the writers that have flourished in Edinburgh over the centuries. We also get a glimpse into the history of the city and some of the more salacious stories that have come out of it.
The tour starts at the bus station (at the back of a queue of tour buses – I never realised there was such competition), and travels through Calton Rd, past Holyrood Palace, up Cowgate, back round Lauriston Place down past Charlotte Sqare and eventually back to the starting point, with the people on the bus well educated as to the richness of the city. The best part is that we also receive a ticket for the normal MacTour bus as part of our entry, so two tours for the price of one. Well recommended.
