“Rabbit” is a short play (45 minutes) about the generation gap, love and death. The five cast members mom, dad, the daughter, her boyfriend and the chauffeur weave a complex tale of growing up as the daughter of a ‘shock-jock’ and how a tragic admission can change everything in an instant. The play starts with the young couple deciding to rebel and when the parents come home (with a rabbit for dinner), the unfolding events lead to a tragic, and in some ways surprising, conclusion.

I was enticed to see this play as I kept seeing (playboy) bunnies wandering round town promoting it and, as I have seen Donnie Darko, I wasn’t about to go against their advice. I was glad I did, as this is a very emotion and compelling work from a good ensemble cast. The themes it explores will resonate with most people but, be warned, there is a lot of swearing and some simulated drug taking. So if you are looking for a well written, dark tale of a family on the brink, then I urge you to go and see this play. Let’s face it, if you don’t like it the running time means you can still catch something chucklesome.
