Johnny and the Bomb is a play by Terry Pratchett about time travel and the dangers that are inherent in the practice. The machine used to do the travelling is a shopping trolley belonging to a mad old bag lady, and the five time travelers are a group of teenagers. The time they are travelling to is 1941, just before the town they live in is bombed by the Germans and 19 people are killed. Their mission is to work out why they keep being transported to this point and what they are required to do before the bombs drop. I have to admit to being somewhat disappointed with this show. I’m not sure if it was the script that was deficient in explaining some of the plot, or the actors not giving a good enough performance, but I just didn’t get that involved in their dilemma. There were a number of very good lines and some of the ideas were worth waiting for, but perhaps this just wasn’t one that did it for me. The rest of the audience appeared to enjoy the show, so I’ll just put it down to fatigue.
