Venue: Roman Eagle Lodge

“Bite Size” is a series of short plays from Australia that were part of the ten minute theatre festivals in Melbourne and Sydney. There are five plays performed each day and they are chosen at random from two lists of ten.

The plays we saw today were “10,000 Cigarettes”, a play about the joys of smoking; “4”, four stages in a relationship where the girl does all the thinking and emoting as the bloke is just a bloke; “The Wake”, a very funny look at death and the grieving process (or lack of it); “Uncomfortable Silences”, where a man is trying to work up the courage to tell his friend of 15 years that he loves her and finally “Waiting for Hashim”, where two travellers meet on a lonely road but find they are too alike to ever be friends.

The plays were very well performed by the small group of players, some of whom I recognised from the Improvability Drive at this venue. They acted very well and convincingly and ranged across the gamut of human emotions. Although you may not see the same plays I did, I can be safe in saying that you will still enjoy the performance and even if you don’t, wait ten minutes!
