Tom Gleeson has come to the realisation that he is getting older. With his ever increasing bald patch on his head and his newfound love for documentaries. But this doesn’t mean he is becoming dull and boring. I was truly amazed by his ability to laugh at the little things in life. Tom has the ability to turn the ordinary things in life in some hilarious situations.
It is interesting to watch Tom interact with the audience. He has it down to a fine art. He often bursts into laughter himself as you witness him creating jokes on the spot.(Often admitting himself that it was filth.) Sometimes he doesn’t want to share what is going on in his head, but he cracks under the pressure of the cheering audience. Having conversations with the audience is one of Tom’s fortes, meeting four new “potential girlfriends” during the night.
Being an established comedian I do think there is quite a lot of pressure to succeed every night in the comedy festival. The expectations are set very high right from the get go. Tom’s fluent delivery is a great indicator of his confidence and it proves that he sees each show as a challenge.
Breaking the comedy festivals barriers by doing a show on Monday when all the other shows are resting does help fill in that empty space. (Which is especially good news for all us diehard festival fans.) To be able to sell out a show on a freezing Melbourne Monday night is a great compliment to Tom’s show. You will not be disappointed by the energy that Tom delivers.
