When I heard that one of my favorite rooms, “The Wrong Room” would be presenting a season of Saturday’s during the festival, I was excited. The Six and their friends will be presenting to the festival’s audience, a show containing acts that push the boundaries of taste for the public’s amusement.
The opening show of the season was MC’d by Justin Hamilton. Justin relayed some of the more vulgar and risqué stories from his huge repertoire. It was classic Hamilton.
The first act was Cliffy and Co. performing a couple of songs with bit of banter between them. Although I haven’t seen their latest show, I had the impression that this was probably just an excerpt from it with a couple of questionable lines thrown in. I must say I was disappointed.
Next up was Sammy J with a collection of quirky songs for which he is known. It has always made me wonder why Sammy has made multiple appearances at The Wrong Night as he only has a handful of songs that nudge the boundaries of taste. One theory is that he is acting as “The Bad Boy” of the night, playing it clean whilst the others go to town.
Following Sammy was from The Six with a skit that associated brushing teeth with sex. It was as wrong as ever!
The cast from “Me And My Brother Are Porn Stars” presented the strangest and most out of control act of the night. It began with Jesus nailing himself up on the cross. He was then joined by a female dancer, who did a bump and grind around him, and two cave people. They all danced around with some pretty vulgar dance moves before the Caveman clubbed them all. It was so bizarre and chaotic that it was brilliant.
Cliffy redeemed himself in my eyes by infiltrating the stage as a Feral / Homeless Guy and did some of the wrongest toilet humour imaginable. The was farting the tune of Waltzing Matilda, Puking to Advance Australia Fair and the removal of an Australian flag from his bum. Unfortunately the humour was lost on most of the audience during the vomiting, but I applaud him for trying.
Eddie Perfect was next to grace the stage (sans keyboard) and entertained the crowd with a collection of material that certainly pushed the envelope in terms of taste. Even though his performed from notes, he proved that he is great joke teller.
The evening was completed in a spectacular fashion with a performance by Miss Behave. She performed a selection of her more grotesque stunts (the rose and tongue trick and stubbing out a cigar with her tongue) to the backing of Sinatra belting out “My Way”. The Money Shot came with MB’s finale of swallowing the leg of a small table (with a tray and assorted items on top). Wow!
There will be a different line up each week joining the Kings and Queens of Wrong Town, The Six. I hope that all the guest performers who grace the Wrong Stage in the coming weeks will endeavour to challenge the audience, in keeping with the spirit of the show.
