You’ll get everything from beach balls to imaginary skipping ropes to The Chemical Brothers in The Renegades of Folk are The Renegades of Folk.
As in their Fringe Festival show Renegades Josh Earl and The Bedroom Philosopher start the show by sharing the stage, take a turn each to do a solo set and return to the stage together for the finale. Although these guys work well separately it would be lovely to see them paired for the duration of a show, just to watch their relationship blossom over the extended time. Their banter is manufactured to meander but at the same time is sharp and clever.
The Renegades turn discomfort into an art form, both for themselves and the audience. Their use of props from beach balls to computer heads (Scott Pollard originals) deliberately carry no meaning, they’re just there ‘cause they’re fun and they add that extra dash of bizarre to the show. The only real detraction I have was that on the night I was there the show was running late so I had to leave before the very end to get to my next show. The Renegades are energetic, fun and deliberately shambolic and win their crowd over with these qualities. This show is not dissimilar to the last one in style and structure except it’s tighter and funnier. This performance shows an evolved Renegades of Folk.
