In one of many showcases of stand up talent, “Something In The Water” brings us a sampling of the best that Adelaide has to offer.

The MC for that afternoon’s entertainment was the stalwart of Adelaide Comedy, Craig Egan. As always, Craig did a great job warming up the intimate crowd and kept us laughing. He relayed tales of his Big Day Out and his obsession with Dave Grohl. In the tradition of Adelaide humour, he told many jokes about drugs and in my personal highlight, included some reworked Christmas Carols about those illegal substances.

The next comedian to hit Bar Open’s stage was Jarrod Fitch. Beginning with some great material about some people’s obsession with vehicle customization, he soon lowered the tone by taking an express train to Wrong Town. This very un PC stuff began with the real reasons why elderly people broke their hips and got worse from there. To top it all off, he did a hilarious, but very wrong song about his babysitter. Jarrod could possibly be the undisputed Bad Boy of Adelaide stand up.

During his opening monologue, Craig spotted a fellow Adelaide comic in the audience. As a special bonus, we were treated to a short spot by this up and comer by the name of Darren Freak. He gave us a tight set about a phallic relationship between the Rundle and Bourke St Malls and the recent succession of festivals that had stormed through Adelaide. It was a great set and I hope to see more of his stuff in the future.

That afternoon’s headline spot was by Rohan Harry. I had seen Rohan doing tight fives before and he has a solid set of clever material. This extended spot however was quite an arduous journey for both him and the audience. Too much time spent laughing at his own jokes and too many long uncomfortable pauses disrupted his usual flow. His brilliant jokes (such as the bit about the letters from his Sponsor Child) were still peppered thoughout the set, but the journey that had to be taken to get to there was a little torturous. I must commend him for his awesome closing joke that made fun of himself, the others on the bill and Adelaide in general.

With a constantly changing line up, you are sure to find at least one performer that tickles your fancy, if not all of them. It was announced that the shows for the final weekend will feature some of the big names from Adelaide (including the awesome Micky D), so it will be worth checking it out.
