2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival Reviews

Polycomic

Polycomic is a show with three stand-up performers taking place in the little back room at the Loop bar. The chairs are comfy and the room seats about thirty five. The three performers are Ian Messig, Karl Chandler and Cameron Marshall.

The show starts with a video making-of on the big screen, which I thought was an absolute treat. We get to see the creating process in action (well, sort of). After this we are introduced to Ian, who is the first act and MC. I thought he was mumbling a little too much during his set, and also his material about working in a paint shop was falling flat on the audience. He did do an excellent parody of Chicago called St Albans. The excellence was in the singing rather than the words, which could do with a bit of tightening.

The second act was Cameron, who was very funny and personable as he displayed a warped sense of humour, and came out with a few real corkers. Just be warned that some of his jokes concerning the Middle East may seem a little tasteless. The final act, Karl, was a little slow warming up but once he got into his routine, came out with some very good material. The best bit was when he was taking with his future self about how the routine was going.

All up, you get three comics for the price of one, with some very funny jokes and video segments. Sure you may think that Loop is too far away from the centre of the action, but for the price, it is definitely worth a try.
