Back for 2011, 7pm every Sunday on SYN 90.7FM (Melbourne)

The venue for Justin Hamilton’s show is upstairs at the Capitol (same venue as last year). The crowd was large and boisterous and the chairs were comfy. Justin has young Rebecca Hill as a warm-up act for the second year in a row, and she did a very amusing tight five minute set about being a 19-year-old virgin (nice to see someone with a strong Christian moral belief system working on Good Friday, isn’t it?). She then introduced Justin to the stage for a show which, although it doesn’t have a central theme like last year, is still a funny journey through the slightly warped mind of Justin.

We have topics ranging from what your name would be if you were born the opposite sex, why Deep Blue Sea is a cinematic tour de force and what John Howard should be getting up to in the mornings! Justin has a fast paced and entertaining delivery which has a tendency to wheel off on what appear to be tangents, but which are later revealed to be an integral part of a later story (as shown by his ‘brilliant’ animal impressions early on, which later recur as part of other stories). It is only at the end you realize that the entire show is a carefully scripted and excellently performed piece. This is similar to the way comedians like Billy Connolly and Eddie Izzard structure their shows, with sketches and sub-sketches, with the whole only visible at the finish.

This is a fast paced and entertaining show that while it may not change your life, it will at least make you feel better about it.
