Corinne Grant – Faking It
Corinne Grant bursts onto the stage and into song to introduce her new show “Faking It”. No, she hasn’t decided to join the ever widening stream of musical comedians in Melbourne, this song at the start is just something to let the audience know that this show is all about her. There’s no real theme to this show, except to say that this show is all about her. And “her” is funny.
There’s a likeable aspect to Corinne Grant’s performance that makes you feel as though you’re listening to a girl friend tell you stories. Corinne covers a lot of subjects in this show from plastic surgery to escalator fear. She’s at her most endearing when relates stories from her childhood of being a bit of an unco and of feeling out of place.
Corrine interacts with the audience well and intersperses this banter with her stories. On the night Corinne was battling a flu and fought through well barely letting it affect her performance. The audience was a little low key on the night I went and Corrine deserves better responses to her show.
Corrine hasn’t done a full length show for five years, that period time seeing her work more on television with Rove, The Glasshouse and Skithouse. If you think you know Corrine but you’ve not seen her live, do so. This is a welcome return to Melbourne stages for Corrine Grant.
