Christina Davis – The Secret Diaries of Unnamed Fraser

In Christina Davis’ first Melbourne Comedy Festival Show “Christina Davis – The Secret Diaries of Unnamed Fraser” she takes us on a journey through her life, navigating with excerpts from diaries she has kept throughout her life.

The notion of taking a diaristic view of your life in retrospect is not a new one, however what sets Christina apart is that her life has been, quite simply, a little bloody bizarre. Of course we all remember her as ‘Christina Ballerina’ from Big Brother, and as well as covering that period of time in her life, Christina discusses years spent as an aspiring ballerina in France, being adopted and working hard in L.A. to make it as an actor.

Christina’s extraordinary tales are put into stark relief by Christina herself, who has a relaxed and approachable demeanour. There is a danger in a situation such as this that the performer could let the remarkable nature of the tale do the work. However Christina simply uses the story as a platform upon which she posits clever and original material, which provides many laughs through the course of the show. Christina is self effacing in a manner with earns the empathy of the audience, and for all her odd experiences she ultimately wins the audience over with simple human vulnerability.

This show is yet to demonstrate Christina Davis at her full potential as a comedian but it is a glimpse of someone with real promise and an enjoyable, funny show to boot.
