In his show, Bruno Lucia certainly delivers on both counts. You get stand up AND rock!

On the stand up front, Bruno presented material covering a huge range of topics. His Italian background, growing up in Adelaide, racial stereotypes, terrorism, Avian Flu and Viagra all got a look in. He made liberal use of dodgy accents and wacky facial expressions in getting his jokes across. With the number of issues he addressed, it was almost a matter of don’t blink or you’ll miss something.

On the rock side, he sang a number of songs to a backing track while jamming along on his guitar. Songs such as “Take me back to Adelaide”, “I’m so smashed” and “The Botox Boogie” were used in addition to the jokes, to nicely tie up the theme of a relevant section of the show.

The part of the show I personally enjoyed was the section towards the end where Bruno espoused some of his theories on music styles and history. The obvious crowd favourite was his demonstration of the “Tamworth Style” of Country music performance. This highly physical routine whilst playing the guitar got a huge round of applause and laughs.

Bruno’s style of stand up is quite rapid fire. He ensures that every second line he speaks deserves a laugh. However he often paused after some lines waiting for a big laugh that didn’t always arrive. He would follow it up with a comment that came dangerously close to blaming the audience for not getting the joke.

For Bruno’s opinion on many varied topics and to witness his awesome prowess with “The Axe”, Stand Up and Rock is just the ticket.
