An interview with Shane Adamczak
“Zack is a struggling artist who is very determined to make it big-time.” explains Shane Adamczak, writer and performer of the show. “He knows what he wants and will work hard to get it. He also wears a beanie and a yellow “L-Plate” t-shirt for some reason.” If you were to ask Zack himself, he would probably describe himself as “An actor/comedian who performs sophisticated, intellectual, theatre-based comedy. Which is basically his way of saying that if you don’t get his jokes, or find him funny it’s probably your own fault for being uncultured.”
The character of Zack was created “about two years ago, while I was performing at the Adelaide Fringe Festival in 2004. Before I did my first full length Zack Adams show (A Complete History Of Zack Adams), he did a few stand up gigs and two short performances in Perth called “Up late live with Zack Adams”, which was a kind of improvised late night talk show style performance, and the other was “A Brief History Of Zack Adams” which formed the basis of the first big show. Zack seems to get more work these days than I do, and most people… think I actually am Zack Adams, which is fine, I happily go by both names. We’re very similar, so I can see why people would make the mistake.”
“Here’s a scoop just for Groggy Squirrel readers, I’ve just finished writing the second Zack Adams show. It’s called Elevator and has a robot in it.”
Shane had just come from a successful run of the show at the Adelaide Fringe. “I’m not exactly swimming [in] a vault full of cash Scrooge McDuck style after the season, but I had a lot of fun and met some really great people. I hope I left a small Zack Adams sized dent on my audiences though. Either way, I’ll be going back for sure. I was on a game show. The Fringe rocks.”
This will be Shane’s first trip to the Melbourne Comedy Festival. “I’m trying to go in with an open mind and just see what happens. I hope that people will come and see my show and enjoy it as much as I do, and I hope I’m not to be heavily in debt once I return to Perth. I will definitely be going out to check out other artist’s great shows. For me this is just another new experience in my career and hopefully it will be the first comedy festival of many.”
