Interview with Sammy J

Tell me about your new show?
My show is a fairytale tour around Australia that takes place in under an hour. The audience will play six different crowds as I bumble around the nation, with plenty of video, music and juice-drinking. I even have costume changes!

Did you play the same show at the Fringe?
No, MICF will be the 55 Minute Tour debut.

How did you find the Fringe this year?
I was in Adelaide for just one week, doing the “Laughapoolooza” shows at the Umbrella Revolution. It was great to soak it all up without the stress of promoting my own show. Also, as part of his election campaigning, Premier Mike Rann seduced me. I didn’t tell him I was a Victorian and that my vote didn’t count.

Are you doing Laughapoolooza at the MICF?
Yes I am doing Laugha in Melbourne too. It will be a good chance to plug my show in front of an actual crowd.

You did the 3 Minute Walk last year with Michael Connell and Fox K, is this your first solo show for the MICF?
Indeed – in fact it’s my first solo show ever. One hour of pure, solid J.

Would you like to plug your new CD?
Not really. I don’t see why anyone would want to hear about “Sammy J – Live?”. And why would they want to purchase one for only $10 at any of my gigs, or from the Town Hall Merchandise stall during the festival? And who cares if it’s jam-packed with crazy, piano-based musical comedy songs that will have them chuckling for hours? Or that you can see some video from the recording at www.sammy-j.com ?

Anything I have missed?
Not at all! It has been a brief but thorough affair.

Sammy J’s 55 minute National Tour is on at Duckboard House, 9:30pm, Tue – Sat during the festival. $18/$15.
