Adam Richard tells us a bit about his 2006 show ‘Fabulous Adam Richard’

So tell us a bit about your Fabulous show…

I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few years slagging off celebrities. I attended the Oscars in Los Angeles last year, hosted the Meida Room at the Logies for the last two years, crashed the AFI party, and been at more red carpets and celebrity events than you can possibly imagine. The celebs know me now, and I’m happy to tell you exactly what happens when I’ve come face to face with the stars I’ve been sledging. This show will necessarily have a language warning because Darren Hayes from Savage Garden (whose diaries I read out on Triple J) called me the c-word.

Is it more difficult to get a comedy Festival show together now you have a time consuming ‘proper job’ which includes 2 radio shows for Fox FM and a spot on Morning telly?

Oh yeah. Then again, I’m not trying to win any awards. This is not going to be one of those thought-provoking, introspective shows or one of those shows with a PowerPoint demonstration of facts and figures. I just want to do an entertaining show. I’ll be using my tried and tested method of talking poofy and hoping for the best.

Do you get different types of fans coming along since you’ve been doing the radio show?

Definitely. The best part is, radio fans are often quite chatty. We do a very open show, people are welcome to ring in any time they feel like, and it is the same with the stage show. I am happy to interact with people from the stage; it is one of my favourite things to do.

Now you have a higher profile do you have to watch who you are ‘commenting’ about in your stand up case you have to interview them or bump into them at a showbiz do?

You would think so, but I have a disability in my botheration gland, which means I am incapable of caring. I’ve been confronted by people on the odd occasion, and I’ll be talking about that in the show, but I think people are more afraid that saying something to me will be like picking a scab. And it is. I’m more than likely to go on air the next day and say exactly what they said or did.

Are you having a Fabulous time?

Absolutely.
